Info: Art installation designed by Diller&Scofidio+Renfro for the Milano Design Week
Installation Off The Cuff
The structure of the pavilion consists of 300 pairs of jeans. Using the trousers as a modular component, intentionally extrapolating the object from its context of reference (the human body) and adapting it to an architectural module, the project exploits the implicit formal structure of the garment.
By connecting the jeans together, waist on waist and leg on leg, a chain tensile structure was created that covers the open space of the courtyard. The net thus constructed gives the impression of a body sculpted in space but also the transposition of a body through the repetitiveness of the element. He is an architectural figure who projects himself towards the courtyard expressing a collective soul using the individual human dimension of jeans.
A contemporary madness inserted in a classic monumental context, a roof that brings together two different scales of urban life.
