“We have been thrown at the epicentre of the Covid19 emergency at disarming speed. After the initial reaction of scare and shock, we realized that our team and our network of suppliers have the opportunity and the capacity to realize something really useful to fight and contain the pandemic.”
Maco Technology and Maccarinelli srl, have the innovation in their DNA: our efforts are generally focused on cutting edge technologies for the motorsport, temporary events and pop-up shops. After a review of our products, we realized that, with limited adjustments, we can provide solutions able to support the healthcare system during the current Covid19 emergency and in the future.
As a result, we developed two new products: Hospi-container and Hospi-trailer..
The current challenge
One month after the outbreak of the Covid19 in Europe it became evident that hospitals, retirement homes and most of the structures related to the healthcare system are often the starting point of new clusters which put at risk patients and healthcare professionals.
Researchers are considering the potential advantages of a radical change in the traditional concept of diagnosis and hospitalisation currently in use. The new approach has the potential to relieve pressure on the hospitals during the Covid19 emergency and in the future during the gradual return to the normality with the constant risk of a second wave of infections.
Hospi-container and Hospi-trailer aim to become first aid centres and health centres disseminated throughout the country thanks to the ability to be “mobile clinics” and to be easily transported in few hours in the areas most affected by the emergency. The emergency units have a central core equipped with the essential services and medical surgical devices. The central core is expanded with a temporary lightweight structure designed to provide a large protected area and able to be installed in a few hours by a small team of workers.
Hospi-container
Based on a shipping container, Hospi-container can provide the support to carry-out the Covid19 tests on the population. It can also be adapted to the “Drive-through” concept where the patients can autonomously reach the emergency unit with their own car. Thanks to the lightweight membrane canopy, the patient can drive through the unit and be tested remaining seated in the automobile.
The container is equipped with the instrumentation required to analyse the testing kit. In case of emergency, the structure can be expanded with a second covered area, fully enclosed and climatised, designed to short-term hospitalization. Hospi-container is delivered ready to be used equipped with all the medical instrumentation required and with the lightweight membrane canopy designed to be installed in a few hours and provide a covered surface of 80 sqm on each side of the shipping container.
Hospi-trailer
Based on the Mobile Clinics already in use in the MotoGP and Superbike championships, the semitrailer can be installed in any square or parking area. The vehicle is equipped with two “sliders”, deployable units able to double the internal space used as a testing laboratory or intensive care unit. The semitrailer is surrounded by a lightweight textile canopy 25mx16m. In this way, in less than 10 hours it is possible to obtain an hospital with a covered surface of 400smq which can be easily disassembled in one day by 4 people without the support of any lifting equipment. The entire structure can be fully air-conditioned and equipped with generators able to produce the energy required.
Speed makes the difference
During this emergency, the speed makes the difference and we should embrace the opportunities offered to us. Considered this, subject to the approval of the medical staff, thanks to the willingness of the Clinica Mobile nel Mondo srl and its owner, Dr Michele Zasa currently directly involved in the 118 emergency unit of Parma (Italy), we can make available the two structures designed and supplied for the motorcycle racing world champions. The two semitrailers are already available. The membrane canopies can be produced in 4/6 weeks, according to the authorizations required. Additional new structures can be supplied according to the evolving of the crisis.
