The project consists of 9 molded ETFE canopies that make up the cover of the exterior of the famous Jimmy’z nightclub in Monte Carlo.
The 9 canopies were made of steel by calendering 163 and 219 mm tubulars. The structures vary in diameter and height from a minimum of 4 meters with a height of 3 meters to a maximum of 8 meters in diameter with a height over 7 meters.
The single layer ETFE cover is printed with a pattern chosen by the architect that recalls palm leaves. The print was produced through a unique digital printing process. Unlike gravure printing, digital printing for ETFE allows for almost total customization of the result.
The ETFE is tensioned through a perimeter pull system and stiffened through a dense network of cables, bagged inside the film. The cables serve to enable the ETFE to withstand wind loads even in very exposed areas (the disco is located a few meters from the sea).
